Promises was from GC NW Velva's and Silver Lady. He was a stocky silvery bundle of energy as a kitten but, thankfully, did slim down as an adult. He always had a beautiful head with clean profile and large luminous green eyes. He had inherited the lovely silver coat from his mother and, although a bit shy, responded well to the toys and assorted entertainments the judges provided at the shows.
I had found that my cats were reassured when they heard something familiar, and so I took to naming cats after song names and would then hum the song if the cat seemed a bit nervous at the shows. I'm sure people thought it a bit strange, but they got used to my meandering around the show halls, humming. I guess it is probably a good thing that few exhibitors have taken up this method of commuicating with their cats!
As an adult Promises was a very easy cat to travel with and did not seem to be stressed with new hotels/show halls/strange surroundings. He was shown at about 30 shows as an adult--this was a large number of shows in those days. he was always an excellent "guest exept for one time when I didn't get the litter pan ready in time and he used to most identifiable rectangular container--my open suitcase. I was not popular with my travel companions, other exhibitors or even myself that weekend.
